Why We Are
We set out to be a ‘Profit with Purpose’ company.
What do we mean? Our shareholders signed up to an ethical statement which is the heart of our business. To be sustainable, we need to make a profit but we don’t see that as conflicting with our purpose which is the inner mindset at the core of the business. We believe delighted customers who come to feel part of what we do are the best source of sustainable, long-term success.
We enjoy a cooperative relationship with other Bristol studios, knowing that each appeals to a particular group of customers. We are not aiming to compete directly on price with less fully-equipped yoga studios (though we are comparable). Pacific Yoga provides a complete environment which extends the benefits of the physical part of the yoga to everything else that happens within our walls – from style and cleanliness to smiles, empathy and expertise.
Environmental sustainability plays a central role in the design and operation of the space. Our technical systems, water heating and insulation make sure we have a light footprint. Our in-house laundry avoids harmful chemicals. The cafe focuses on locally-sourced, high quality ingredients – organic where possible. We know how much the social side matters, having a place to spend time and not feel you have to rush away – so Cafe Matariki and Pacific Yoga are inseparable and that is a key part of our purpose.
