Who We Are
Margaret and James set out to build a yoga centre with a strong idea in their minds for a special place. Pacific Yoga – because Margaret was born on the Polynesian island of Rarotonga in the Cook Islands – a long way from anywhere in the middle of the South Pacific, as close to paradise as you are likely to get. Pacific, as in warm sun, the shade of coconut trees and the rhythm of waves on the coral reef.
Margaret had been making fine bed linen in New Zealand before training to teach yoga and teaching around the world. James was a TV news correspondent before writing a whole lot of novels.
It took two years searching to discover the Brewhouse, shuttered up and forgotten since the end of the 1990s. Suddenly the project had doubled in size and we needed help. Shareholders joined us who believed in what we set out to do. It was an act of faith and without them, we could not have done it.
Next we assembled a team of like-minded people to help create the cafe and run the yoga – people with skills. keen empathy and natural smiles.
Finzels Reach and the new bridge were not much more than lines on a plan and a twinkle in the developer’s eye at that stage. It took us another two years to buy the Brewhouse ground floor and fit it out to a demanding specification but we knew it was the right place for us.
